The "Pioneer Life" in 2008: Part Two

Perhaps the Pioneers didn't use bulldozers, backhoes and dump trucks when they built their homes...(check out this lovely home in Tremonton, UT!...is that what a pioneer 'flat tire' looks like there in front of that white picket fence?)...but I wanted to share this cute boy's quilt with you. My friend's son works in construction and so this was a perfect quilt for his baby boy! I quilted around the path so some day the little boy can play with his cars on the quilt.
Here are some more sights from my trip to Utah...pioneer living...Check out these old buildings in Richmond, Utah below. (Soon I'll be telling you why I went to the tiny town of Richmond...hint: it even includes a ghost story!) Look how beautiful that sky is, and I don't think you have to worry about traffic problems in this town.
Below is a picture of a "pioneer" A&W. At least that's what it looked like to me! As I snapped this photo, someone drove an old Ford in front of it. It just added to my picture, don't you think?
Is this where the pioneers bought their farming supplies? It's called the "I-F-A" store. At least that's what everyone calls it in Utah. I call it the "If-a" store. If-a you ever need some Wrangler Jeans and Roper shirts, they sell 'em!
Below is an old school bell that might have been used to call the kids to come to school. Perhaps it was a school like one portrayed in the "Anne of Green Gables" films.
Now here's a real pioneer woman! She was shopping with her children at a garage sale. Seriously, though, it's a Mennonite woman.
Apparently, not far from Daughter #1's home, there is a Mennonite community. I was quite surprised to learn this. I looked for her horse and buggy, but I saw her get into a van. I am sorry I had to gawk at her, but I had never seen a Mennonite before. Her children were darling. I made Daughter #1 stop the car so I could get this picture of her. I felt like the paparrazi. I'm just awful! I really am!

And here's another pioneer! She was putting in her ear plugs to get ready to shoot a gun. It was Annie Oakley herself.

No, it was just an "Annie Oakley-wanna be." It was Daughter #1 showing me what a great shot she is. That's her neighbor there looking on. He's a police officer in town. Now and then he takes Daughter #1 and her Sweetheart out shooting.

Did she shoot deer or bison for dinner...just like the pioneers? No, it was just a picture of this thug. Good aim, Daughter #1!

Side note: I took a turn shooting too. It was my first time shooting a hand gun, and even an assault rifle! I am not posting pictures. Why not? Let's suppose I am ever nominated to be Vice President of the U.S. Those pictures would be all over the news! Some pictures are better kept private! LOL
*****

I closing, I want to tell you a funny story. Meet Donell, pictured below on the left. She reads my blog and lives near Daughter #1. She read how I have written: "if I go visit Utah, I better remember to wear a pioneer bonnet." So, Daughter #1 drove me over to her home because she wanted to meet me. I knocked on the door and she answered it dressed like this! Pioneer bonnet, apron and all! Her husband even had on a cowboy hat! We had such a good laugh!
See! I was right! You do have to wear your pioneer bonnet when you visit Utah!

Just like the pioneers!

Interesting about the Mennonites. My great grandparents (dad's side) were Mennonites. They were farmers in Bakersfield. I guess they are known for their family history. I had a dead end on that side and ended up emailing the Mennonite Society of Ca and they sent me 8 more names (2 or 3 generations!) I was so happy.

Wow! What a surprise -- a Mennonite community in Utah??? We have lots of Mennonites and Amish here, but in Utah????
