Teaching Another Generation

Recently I had the chance to help a local high school senior with her senior project. I did a presentation for our Church's Young Womens organization about how quilting is like life (another blogpost for another day!). One girl, Misty, called me shortly after that presentation and said she wanted to learn to make a quilt for her senior project.

A few weeks later I got together with Misty and we took a field trip over to Fresh Picked Fabrics where I introduced her to owner Gina Halladay. Gina gave us a tour and showed us around her business. She was very helpful and answered many of Misty's questions. She suggested that Misty make one of her Threaded Pear quilts from the pattern, "Suprisingly Super Simple." After that we walked around looking at all the beautiful fabrics.

Next we took a trip to another quilt shop to see even more fabrics! (Note: I told Misty all about what a "fabric stash" was!) We visited The Calico House where Misty found some fun black and white fat quarters. These fabrics were fun and just right for Misty. Yes, that's right...animal prints, pins, skull & crossbones, etc. And this is what she made:

Didn't it turn out cute? Now she's going to do the binding and present it this week at the high school. I know it will be something that she'll treasure for many years to come. I was glad to be able to help the next generation learn about quilting.
