Plot 19-122

Riverside National Cemetery, Plot 19-122. That's where my grandfather is buried. There among so many thousands of graves of our service men. He's been gone many years now, but I still remember this good man.

"There is no greater calling than to serve your fellow men. There is no greater satisfaction than to have done it well." --Walter Reuther

Being that tomorrow is Memorial Day, I am thinking of my grandfather, William Welby McCune 1903-1986. When I was a kid I remember going to his home and listening to his stories. Oh, what a great storyteller he was! Oh, how I wish I would have listened better and even written down the stories. He was a Captain for the US Army during World War II and served from 1942-1945. He was so honored to have served our nation. I miss him. Here he is pictured with my grandmother on their honeymoon in 1927. Don't you think he could have been a movie star? So handsome!

Here's a patriotic quilt I did years ago, when I was a handquilter. So long ago...looks like an antique now, I think.
Have a nice Memorial weekend!

Your quilt is beautiful!
Memorial Day is a wonderful way to remind us of our heritage, our family members who served in the military, as well as all the service men and women who made the sacrifices to protect and defend our country.
