A Class Act

Today I watched "Tootsie" and "Out of Africa" as I quilted, in honor of director Sydney Pollack who died yesterday at the age of 73. Reading some of the statements stars said about him, I was impressed by this one: "Sydney made the world a little better, movies a little better and even dinner a little better. A tip of the hat to a class act," Clooney said in a statement. "He'll be missed terribly." Reading about this man today I was impressed by his life. He was married to the same woman for 50 years. How rare that is in Hollywood. How rare is that anywhere, actually!
(one of my favorite scenes from Out of Africa, pictured below. How can you not love it!)

Now let me tell you about another class act...

I wish I had a photo of this to share, but I don't.

Last night I went to an Angel's baseball game. We had good seats and like I usually do, I was people-watching with my binoculars. As usual, many balls were hit into the crowd. (You have to be on your guard at major league baseball game.)

As I was people-watching through my binoculars, I saw a fowl ball fly up into the stands. A tough looking man about in his 20's (tattooed, shaved head) easily caught the ball. Everyone cheered, like they always do. But then as I continued to watch through my binoculars, I saw what happened next. The tough looking man looked down at a little boy a few rows behind him. He was about 4 or 5 years and he was holding up his baseball glove and looked sad that he hadn't caught the fly ball. The tough guy then put the ball he had just caught into the glove of that little boy! You should've seen the smile on his face. You should've seen the smiles of everyone's faces around them. Even the little boy's grandma gave the tough guy a big hug. It was the cutest scene. A small crowd around them, who had seen what took place, cheered. It was wonderful.

Now why were at the Angels Baseball game? Because of this guy....another class act...

It's Daughter #2's Sweetheart. He had never been to an Angels game before. (only the LA.Dodgers). So Daughter #2 planned a little surprise birthday gift to him. My DH got the tickets from a friend who works for the Angels. Look at how cute these newlyweds are:
Being there on Memorial Day was great. A soldier sang "God Bless America" during the "7th inning stretch." It was very nice.
Take a look at this pitcher on the Detroit Tigers! Can you do this? Wish I could!
And have you ever wondered what Santa Claus does in the off-season? He goes to Angel baseball games, of course! He was sitting behind us!

And of course in the 7th inning, because the score was tied 0-0, the Angels Rally Monkey made his appearance. The Rally Monkey first came on the scene in 2002. If you ever go to an Angel game, make sure you get one! They sell cute stuffed ones there.

And on a final note....

This is the quilt I worked on today while watching Sydney Pollack films. Tomorrow I think I'll watch "The Way We Were." Another one of my favorites!

Have a good week, blogging friends. Here's hoping you know some "class acts" too!

The hair washing scene is one of my favorite scenes from a movie, too! If I find out of Africa on TV, I always have to stop and watch until that scene is done!
