The Mystery of the Egg Money Quilt

A few blog posts ago, I asked what is an Egg Money quilt? One of my customers brought hers to me for machine quilting. I got a number of comments on my blog and some very informative emails letting me know what it was. Thank you so much. Well, now I know...would you like to know too?

This is what my blogging friend Dee of Thea Quilts wrote:

"Egg Money is a reference to what women did back in the Depression and, in fact, for years after. Women raised chickens and sold the eggs for money to buy incidental items that they wanted but couldn't afford to take from the family budget. Special things like clothing for special occasions and fabric for quilts. Eleanor Burns of Quilt in a Day fame came out with a pattern a couple of years ago called "egg money quilts" They were made with fabrics like Judy Rothermel's "Aunt Grace" collection or feedsacks or all those repros from that era. Cute stuff if you like that." Thanks Dee!

Here's the Egg Money quilt in process...

Almost done!

Still working at it...it was pretty big!

Wait for it...

It's just about finished...

Almost...

Yeah! All finished! Cute, huh?

Here are closeups of some of my favorite blocks...Enjoy!

Now you and I both know what an Egg Money quilt is! Have a great day!

It's a pretty quilt but your quilting makes it really special!

Thanks for the mention-I found out that they used the feedsacks from the chicken feed for quilt material as well so I'll just throw that into the explanation. Whatever-It's really sweet colorful &, of course, the quilting is spectacular!

Okay Vivian; I'm checking out your blog, and like it. Especially the FC cheerleader photos you posted earlier. Sometime I'll e-mail you for instructions on how to blog. By the way, I think I'd enjoy quilting, don't have the time, but I'd enjoy it. Does that make me gay? Not that there's anything wrong with that!
